A dreamer and her loyal Saint Bernard Make tracks through puddles in their backyard Hop from rock to rock 'cross the neighbors' brook Once out of sight, spreads her wings, and takes flight Blue sky breaks through the treetop parasol Soon she's flying above it all Weightless on clouds she plays, perfects her grand jete Then looks out upon a boundless world From plains to forest; forest to sea A vast expanse of endless possibilities Rise and shine there's so much left to do Dreams don't wait for sleep, when you know how to see them through She tails an airplane, toward the city lights Where the buildings reach through the sky Through the windows she spies, learns how adults spend their lives: Among the clouds, yet so weighed down Sunset stopwatch marks this journey's end As she regroups with her canine friend They stroll home and think of what tomorrow brings Adventures plucked from her wildest dreams From plains to forest; forest to sea A vast expanse of endless possibilities She makes a promise that in all of her time She'll never forget her ability to fly

Matchstick tossed into the grill Letting the fire start to build Unfold a lawnchair by the pool Smell the fresh cut grass and char-broiled food You dive with backyard finesse Slow motion crystalline splash A single drop lands on my cheek Left there to dry up naturally This may not last for long But while we're here, let's keep This moment in focus The sands of time slip away, but we're together today Chest-pounding explosions in the sky Light spirals out and multiplies Wrapped up in towels on the steps Temple on shoulder, hand in hand No camera, phone, or video We just appreciate the show Experience the here and now Until the last flame fizzles out This may not last for long But while we're here, let's keep This moment in focus The winds of change never fade, but we're together ...today Doesn't matter where this goes next Always cherish the present moment Weightless, awake This may not last for long But while we're here, let's keep This moment in focus The band continues to play, 'cause we're together today Don't know how long I can stay, but we're together today

Part 1: Sighing suburban routine Tag along round the house, to the store, catch the bus on time Inhaling chalkboard monotony Sit still, voice down, eyes forward, don't look outside Rest your wings, cage-bound bird Some day you'll be free to explore the world Mental notes outside the dmv Two car lengths, 10 and 2, don't peel out this time New adventures fill her dreams West Coast road trips, Florida beaches, and the New York skyline Ready your wings, nesting bird Soon you'll be free to explore the world Transition: But days slip away Running in place Starting to believe There's no room for dreams Pre-packaged lives The daily grind Part 2: Stuck once again in routine Early rise, commute ride, 9-to-5, overtime Far too spent to live the dream A tiring week and a bleak retreat, a dry Manhattan spill on ruffled sheets Mend your wings, fallen bird You can find your way and explore the world She says she can wait a few years more But it's getting hard to ignore The trail of feathers on the- High-rise elevator ascends A measured tower of clockwork success, battered by the winds of regret Blue sky view from a metal desk Panic races through her mind looking through the window from the other side Spread your wings, long lost bird There's still time to explore the world She says she can wait a few years more But it's getting harder to ignore The trail of feathers on the ...floor

Shelter 02:22
Barren wasteland Verdant forest Dried up fountain Roaring ocean Feeling hopeless Childhood promise Never lost for long Barren wasteland Verdant forest Dried up fountain Roaring ocean Cold abandonment Loving warmness Never lost for long

Snow falls gently outside the gates at the garden of eden Where anyone who's left spends their days lined against her walls, to feel the radiating warmth from within One by one, we walk back to our apartments routinely Where the rent is way too high, but we'll be the first in line when those gates open up to let us in But if you're wasting away Waiting for your lucky day Put this place behind you In the time that you have You'd better build what you can Forge a way ahead; do it now Roadways crumble under a midnight sky at the edge of the city Where a still-wet message, scrawled In pink fluorescent spraypaint Beckons threateningly, "turn back now" That reproach is a sign That your instinct is right Keep on driving onward Don't get off of the road 'Til you find a place you can grow Cultivate your world and let the sun shine down You'd better build what you can Better build what you can Don't sell yourself short Being helpless and bored Live a little, start right now Amber sunbeams warm our souls in the garden of eden Where the greenest pastures glisten With the sweat from our brow As we breathe in deeply, close our eyes, and rest

Ticket Stubs 03:41
Carousel and the ferris wheel Spinning round in the warm night air Powdered sugar and fried dough treats Old-fashioned bulbs flash in bold marquee Throwing darts at balloons on the wall Milk bottles never go very far Giant prizes no-one ever wins Not worth as much as the ticket stub that got you in Rusted metal and crooked games Crackling speakers and ketchup stains From parts unremarkable Are born the memories we don't let go Walking back through the field of cars Winding down as we depart Shoulders red, treasures in hand A goldfish in a plastic bag A blow-up hammer that squeaks when hit Snake made of felt, already ripped More than enough to carry back Tokens of all the fun we had Faithful friends laughing with ease Simple thrills, cotton candy cheeks At the time it might seem dumb Taken for granted but not for long Rusted metal and crooked games Faithful friends laughing with ease Crackling speakers and ketchup stains Simple thrills, cotton candy cheeks At the time it seems kinda dumb From parts unremarkable Taken for granted but not for long Are born the memories we don't let go

Fragments 04:22
(never lost for long...) In a Seattle cafe, I saw the back of your head Nodding dreamily to a rhythm I couldn't hear Noticed your watch counting the minutes in Brooklyn 'Til a southbound bus would take you on your way Through the window of my cab, I watched your feet cross Newbury Street Gliding past a tour group, and shrinking out of view Followed your shadow out of a bar in Dupont Looked away for a second and then you were gone So I just stumbled on We move from place to place, in and out of frame In focus for a blink of an eye; a chance to collide But...never quite in time Don't know who you are, 'cause all I see are fragments When you perked up your umbrella out from a crowd in New Orleans I was weaving between raindrops to get back to my hotel I breathlessly tried to find you swimming at Pensacola After spotting your top strewn across your towel Smelled the rubber you burned on SoCo in Austin We could've cruised together if I had run that yellow light Last place we crossed paths was Chicago O'Hare You were waving to a friend when I caught the gleam of your wedding ring Checked my bag, carried on We move from place to place, in and out of frame In focus for a blink of an eye; a chance to collide ...can't say I ever really tried Just another batch of unconnected fragments

Freeway clamor fades away Overcome by rolling waves Time suspended in a breezy calm Open ocean, ready to move on Toes sink into sandy shore Enjoy these last few steps before setting course The ebb and flow And the afterglow Tides rise and fall for us all The current shifts Sets my path adrift Without distress, roam on ahead Past the castles built by someday-kings Scouting for shells, collecting memories Sun-warmed towels on which dreamers rest And those whose paths will never quite connect At the line between the past and now I shake off the ropes and then ship out The ebb and flow And the afterglow Tides rise and fall for us all The current shifts Sets my path adrift Without distress, roam on ahead As my ship floats further out to sea I wave to those who might remember me As my ship sails beyond familiar tides I stand tall on the bow and take the ride
